Blog #2497: Toy Review: Combination Mecha Predaking (Third Party Transformers G1 Predacons, Divebomb, Headstrong, Razorclaw, Rampage, Tantrum, Predaking)

Combination Mecha Predaking (Third Party Transformers G1 Predacons, Divebomb, Headstrong, Razorclaw, Rampage, Tantrum, Predaking)

With the proliferation of third party toys the line between a knockoff and a third party toy have blurred, at least they have for me. It would be fair to call this a knockoff or a modified knockoff since it’s not an exact reproduction of the G1 toy, but I consider this third party (especially as many third party toys are now being knocked off). I have both an opaque set and a translucent set, the latter of which would fit in perfectly with G1 toys. The molds have been simplified and he’s quite a bit smaller than a G1 Predaking.

Divebomb

Divebomb looks great in beast mode. The colors on both look great. In robot mode his head has been significantly simplified, now molded to a flat piece and set into the bottom of his beast head. To say the least, it looks terrible.

Headstrong

As with Divebomb, Headstrong’s beast mode looks great. In robot mode his head is again molded to a piece set into the bottom of his beast head. His shoulders have also been modified. I guess they do the job of attaching his arms, but that’s not saying much. His whole body is backwards from the G1 toy, so his legs are a sold piece with the tail as a single foot. He’s really weird.

Rampage

Rampage looks great in beast mode. I love the colors on both versions. He also has his robot head in the bottom of the anima head and backwards legs.

Razorclaw

Razorclaw is the only one of the team who has an actual robot head and is the closest to the G1 toy. He has no rotation at his waist so his legs are backwards.

Tantrum

Tantrum does not break the trend of an excellent beast mode and questionable robot mode. He has the same issues as Headstrong.

Predaking

But let’s be honest, the only thing that really matters is how they look combined, and they both look amazing. Either one, but especially the translucent looks like it would fit perfectly in with G2.

Overall: If you want an awesome looking Predaking at a really reasonable price (less than $40, but I don’t know if they are still available) either of these is an awesome set.

Thanks for reading!

I’m 36 years old, and I work in network tech support for a public school system. I am a huge fan of Star Trek, Transformers, Harry Potter, and Marvel Comics as well as numerous other fandoms. I’m a big sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I collect toys (mostly Transformers but other stuff too), comic books, and Red Sox baseball cards. I watch an obscene amount of television and love going to the movies. I am hopelessly addicted to Wizard Rock and I write Harry Potter Fanfiction, though these days I am working on a couple of different original YA novels.
