Botcon 2024 Toys (Shattered Glass Gullwing, Light Point Finepoint, and Light Point Breakpoint, Delta Magnus, Sunstorm)
Attendee Badges
The Botcon 2024 attendee badges might be the most incredible badges a convention has ever had. As an homage to the first Botcon’s exclusive G2 Breakdown, it uses the box art and design from the G2 Stunticons. Not sure I’d consider many convention badges to be works of art, but these certainly are.
Shattered Glass Gullwing
There is a company making third party M.A.S.K. toys. The car looks great, but I have some major issues with this toy. It was $180, and I had to talk myself into buying it as it would be the only exclusive I didn’t have. I understand why third party Transformers are so expensive, designing a transformers takes a lot of engineering. This is just a plastic car. Sure, it’s got a great paintjob, but the action features are basic toy design that has been used in toy cars for decades. To me this is at most a $50 toy, and if I’m being honest, I’m getting a little sick of Shattered Glass.
Legacy Collection Box Set
Let’s call this what it is, they had a whole bunch of unsold Beast Boxes, so they printed up a box to put them in and called it Legacy Collection, when it should have been called, Please Take This Overstock Off Our Hands Collection. The only reason I bought it is that it came with a pin and the Light Point Breakpoint. More on him below.
Light Points Breakpoint and Finepoint
Light Points are a new series of Target Masters, the first two of which were available at Botcon 2024. Breakpoint, based on G2 Breakdown, was available in the Legacy Collection box set. Finepoint was the exclusive for one of the custom class C-110 Jungle Shadow, a repaint of G1 Hound meant to the missing C-110 toy in Japan. The Light Points are cool, but they are kind of delicate. One of mine had the head broken off, but fortunately, Zabgoth got an extra for a custom and had the head I needed. I love the idea, but they need to be a little mor durable. Not pictured is a bracket included with Finepoint to mount him on G1 Hound’s shoulder.
Pin Set
Nine pins, all different colors of Optimus Prime, starting at the top above, Delta Magnus, Fire Guts Ginrai, G1 Optimus Prime, Nemesis Prime, Shattered Glass Optimus Prime, Shining Urine…sorry, Shining Yellow Ultra Magnus, Toxitron, and Ultra Magnus. Very cool.
Yolo Park Delta Magnus and Sunstorm
Delta Magnus and Sunstorm are repaints of two of the Yolo Park AMK Mini Series Model Kits. They are pretty cool. I really like these.
I really like the Agabyss team, not like with Fun Pub who I would poke fun at just for my own amusement, so I hate to say this, but this year’s exclusives were not good in opinion. As I said above, SG Gullwing it a $50-$60 toy for $180. The Legacy Collection Box Set was a $30 Target Master, a pin, and a bunch of stuff I already have and I’m never likely to be able to sell for $100. While I really like the Light Points, they need to be less delicate in the future. One of my toys I received with my preregistration package was the previously released Crystal Wolf Freki (which I was miraculously able to sell for $10 less than they were selling them for), and the model 2-pack, which was cool. To be honest a toy I already had and two little snap together models was not what I was expecting my two toys to be. At the organizer panel it was revealed that the kits came together at the last minute, which makes me wonder if something else fell through, not sure if they said anything about that, but given what we got, it feels like they were replacements. It’s hard to come up with exclusives when you are not going to third party, and you don’t have Hasbro making toys, so I get that this isn’t easy, but it still felt like I got a lot less than I expected this year. It should be said that as an official Hasbro license holder, Yolo Park making a toy for Botcon, and officially branded Transformers product, is a good sign that perhaps they could get toys from Hasbro down the road.
Botcon 2024 was a great convention, the exclusive just weren’t quite what I was hoping for.
